Volunteers play a critical role in our league and we appreciate all you do to help FGSL make the season run smoothly. As volunteers, you are the backbone of our softball league. 



Your background clearance is good for one season. Our season is September 1 - August 31.

Core 4 (Must be background cleared)
USA Softball of Sacramento Portal (Background Check and SafeSport requirements)

  • Coach
  • Usually determined prior to the season starting.
  • Allowed in dugout.
  • USA Softball of Sacramento - Coaches Resources.
  • Assistant Coach 
  • May be determined prior to season starting.
  • May be asked to help out once teams are formed.
  • Allowed in dugout.
  • Manager 
  • Must have two cleared females on every team and at least one female in the dugout at all times.
  • Can be a male if the coach and/or assistant coaches are female. A female must still be in dugout at all times.
  • Interested in being background checked? This is the role you would select and you may help in any capacity.

The league will provide each team with 4 background checks as well as 4 uniform shirts. There will be no option to add additional uniforms.


Volunteer Opportunities

Registration fees do not cover the actual cost to run a full season of softball. As a non‐profit organization, we rely heavily on volunteers in a variety of ways to run a successful league. Below are volunteer opportunities that do not require a USA Softball background check but meet the required volunteer hours:

  • Team Parent (this position is not interacting with players on the field and not in the dugout.)
  • Scorekeeper
  • Field Prep / Maintenance before and after games/practices
  • Trash (Take trash to front of Buckeye school, near gym)
  • Team Sponsor
  • Opening / Closing Ceremonies
  • Special Events
  • Tournament Help
  • Special Projects
  • Umpire*
  • Board Member*



*paid umpire positions with FGSL will count toward volunteer hours. Must be background checked if you are 18 or older.
 All Board members must be background checked.


Volunteer Requirements for Spring and Fall:

  • 1 Child in the program requires 8 total hours (with 2 of those hours in the Snack Bar). 
  • 2 Children or more in the program requires 10 total hours (with 4 of those hours in the Snack Bar).


To ensure that each player fulfills their volunteer commitment, we require a refundable $200 deposit. Address the check to FGSL and turn in at Jersey Pick up day. If hours are met the check will be destroyed/returned. If hours are not met the check will be cashed at conclusion of season.

The 2026 Picture Schedule is posted on our website under the events tab, and here is the itinerary for Opening Day! Raffle baskets may be turned in Wednesday, March 11 between 4:15 pm - 6:15 pm at Buckeye Elementary Snack Shack. Make sure nothing can melt and basket is clearly identifiable with team name and items. Opening Day Ceremonies will take place rain or shine - if rain is in our forecast, we will make necessary changes and keep you informed!
